Persepolis Panel Analysis
This panel analysis paragraph will be analyzing the panel on page 116 in the book Persepolis written by Marjane Satrapi. This panel shows and represents the chaos of the war and how it affected Marji during this time. You can see this in the background and foreground of the panel. In the background you can see Marji walking down the stairs as well as walking out of the door in the foreground. This shows how she is deep in thought about the situation around her and everything that is going on. Then in between the background and foreground is the chaos itself, people fighting, getting caught up in the war, explosions and other various things. Also since in the foreground she is walking out the door it shows how she may be giving up on any hopes of helping the situation, and how she just wants to avoid the situation completely. The color of the panel, being black and white, shows the darkness and dullness of the time, and it shows how the war has affected Marji and brought her into a dark place where no one is happy anymore. The panel on this page also contained contrast and unity, and space as well, that also shows how the panel represents the chaos of war and how it affected Marji. The fighting is the main focus of the panel as it is much larger than everything else. This may represent how big of a problem the war was causing and how much focus was being put into the war by the whole community. Compared to the scene of war, Marji is very small. This could represent how Marji feels so small as if she cannot do anything to help. She is observing the war from an outside perspective with no way of making her way in to make a difference. From this evidence I can say that the panel shown on page 116 shows and represents the chaos of war and how it affected Marji during this time. |
