I thought that the first pages of the book went by very fast. There was a lot going on for the short amount of pages that we read. You learn a lot of information about where they are, on an island, and who some of the main characters are, like Piggy and Ralph. Also, Ralph thinks his father is going to come find them, but if they are stranded on an island I doubt that will happen anytime soon. Although so much was happening it was pretty easy to comprehend that a plane full of school boys crashed onto an island. I think at this point if I have any confusion it is because the characters are confused also. I also noticed that the book seemed very casual, the way the characters talked and the things they said sounded like how little boys would actually talk which helped the book seem a little more realistic to me.

If I were stranded on an island with some of my friends I would want to have a water filter. Fresh water would be very important and I would be surrounded by salt-water but the drinkable water would probably be scarce. If I had a water filter I would not be able to run out of the water that we need to survive. I would also want to have seeds with me for vegetables and other things I could grow to use as a constant source of food. I would want to have some animals, like cows, so when we need to we can milk them or use them for food. Those are some things I would want to have.
The theme of this story is that being unique is not always a bad thing. In the video the little birds were making fun of the big bird because he was different from them and they weren't accepting him. Throughout the story the big bird continued to be his unique self and the little birds continued to not accept him. The little birds kept ganging up on the big one but by the end of the video when the little birds lost all their feathers when they were flung off because they were trying to make the big bird fall, the big bird was better off because he still has his feathers and was perfectly fine. Even though he was unique and different from the little birds that made fun of him, it didn't turn out to be a bad thing because he wasn't getting laughed at anymore and the other birds were embarrassed.
I think that my sophomore year will be very different from my freshman year. For me freshman year was my year to get used to and comfortable with the school. Transitioning into high school made the beginning of last year more of a struggle than I think I am going to have this school year. I am more comfortable with the school now, so I can aim more of my focus towards learning. I would consider my freshman year a very successful one. I was getting the best grades I have ever gotten in school and ended the year with a GPA higher than 5.0 which is a big accomplishment for me. Though this year, I hope to be even more successful. I know in the past I have not studied for tests as much as I probably should have, and this year I plan to make a change. I want to focus on my school work and acing every test that I can. By studying more and taking more time out of my nights for homework than I did in freshman year I think I will be able to get even better grades. My academics are my first priority but I also play volleyball. Last year I was learning how to balance my sport and school work and I think this year I will have it down and it will be easier to balance the two. As I get older, continue through high school, and get closer to going to college I will need to put more attention and focus into my learning. This year I hope to get straight A's and maintain my GPA by being more serious about school and working even harder than I did when I was a freshman.
